We see people day in and day out; we talk to each other, exchanging only glimpses of who we think we are or how we want others to see us. However, it is at home, in our personal space, that we are comfortable enough to be our true selves.
Through exploring an individual’s personal space, I am learning more about that person. I am interested in the particular objects that my subjects consider precious, and what those objects can reveal about their personalities. The environment we live in is important to us; we decorate it to reflect our style and fill it with trinkets that we hold dear. The different elements of one’s individuality are revealed through these quiet images.
Fully Furnished, is a collection of photographs of spaces I have chosen. The images serve as surrogate portraits of a variety of characters; young and old, male and female. Each image supplies the viewer with visual clues as to who each person is.
